I often hear other travelers to Asia say, "India is finished" meaning it has changed and is not longer what it once was. Naturally it is not the same as before, but if one looks carefully, the simple marvels of the "wonder that was India" emerge from the crowds, spectacle and chaos of modern India.
With a long-standing interest in early photographs of Asia and an even longer personal history on the subcontinent, I try to take images that can best be described as "timeless". While obviously contemporary, often depicting mundane scenes that escape the attention of many visitors, one really cannot be certain whether they were taken last year, 50 years ago or even earlier. The ageless and sometimes mad movie that passes before one's eyes is still playing. But it is changing, so if you have not been there, "Don't miss INDIA!" |
