Baluch Animal Trapping, SE Persia, late 19th/early 20th Century, 3.5" x 5' 2"
Another of the Baluch animal bands from SE Persia featuring a pattern that is part of the codified design pool to which the weavers adhere, for the most part. The colors are lovely (all derived from natural dyes) with a nice green, blue, aubergine and madder red.
It is unclear to what the source for this pattern is other than it is perhaps more familiar within the context of borders seen in both Afghan and Baluch rugs and bags.
The condition is good, no repair or re-weaves and the colors are wonderful.
