Kurd(?) Bag Face, W. Persia(?), late 19th century, 1' 10" x 2' 2"

An unusual weaving, presumably from w. Persia. Possibly a Kurd, but am not sure it really matters what it is except for those who wish to compartmentlize and analyze everything, something which I am not really into that much. I prefer to look at rugs and textiles rather than analyze things that we cannot really know for sure in terms of attribution. The graphics of the drawing are real easy to understand, a dramatic medallion on the red field, balanced drawing and spaciously rendered. The condition is excellent, with virtually full pile throughout and no repairs at all. All the colors are derived from natural dyestuffs.
