Roadside Barber in Samarkand, Uzbekistan
Such personal services were not relegated to the privacy of a stall or shop, but often took place right on the streets of Central Asian cities and towns. This photo was taken by Dudin, depicting a barber who has set himself up for business to the side of a street, adjacent to a wall which may surround the grounds of a mosque, as shaving one's head prior to Friday prayers was customary . Style was not practiced by these barbers but instead facility with the razor and completely shaving the heads of those who required their services.
