Outside Palkhor Choden, Gyantse

Two women walk in the courtyard that surrounds the main stupa in Gyantse. Many dogs may often be seen hanging around these monasteries. Tibetan myth has it that these dogs are reincarnated monks who lived lives of little merit, hence reborn as dogs. As they are thought to have been part of the monastic community in a previous life, they are generously fed and provided a few comforts.
