Gyantse, Palkhor Choden

A fabulous stupa in Gyantse, inside of which is housed some of the most impressive examples of Tibetan art. Stupas are reliquaries of holy objects, including the ashes/bones of special lamas, etc. This ancient edifice dates to the 15th century. In the background, one can see the walls of the dzong or fortress, walls which were overcome by Younghusband and the invading British army in the earliest part of the 20th century.
