Selling Chickens in Kabul

Ostensibly, the photo of a chadored woman buying chickens for slaughter in the old city of Kabul, in 1976. The photo, with the surreal oddly whitewashed wall behind, has the feel of an impressionist painting, something that was only pointed out to me recently by someone with a very senstive eye. The slightly out of focus quality to the image as well as the odd, angular compositon of the people, birds and the crate to the right distinguish this photograph of what is a rather simple scene, but one seldom encountered as women were rarely seen on the streets of Kabul in the mid 1970s.
