Karakul Vendor in Kabul
The trade in karakul is quite brisk in Kabul where a measureable percentage of the men sport such hats. It is known as "Persian lamb" in the west, the pelt of unborn lambs. The tightness of the curls of hair as well as the colour denote the quality as determined by the local market, with a light brown with fine brown hair and tight curls deemed the most desireable. This vendor is set up in the old city, in a small lane near the main mosque.
