Tribal Encampment, N. Afghanistan
A fascinating photograph taken in the 1950s by Josephine Powell. Presumably it depicts an encampment of Uzbek people, but it is unclear. The reed screens on the 'yurts' in the background are wonderful, an unknown design to me as I have never seen anything like them in the marketplaces of Asia. The bold patterning is quite striking and I can guess what the colors may be, with blue and yellow or white used in the 'running dog' or 'wave' border.
