Caravansarai, Samarkand

This small and very humble building, in the shadows of the mosque in Samarkand, served as a caravansarai. The horse trappings and saddles stacked up outside suggests this was a place where travelling merchants and traders could take rest while offering whatever it is they have brought to the city for sale. Essentially, the caravansarai was a hotel of sorts, but certainly not in the terms with which we are familiar.
