Baluch Saddle Bag (“Khorjin”), SW Afghanistan, late 19th Century, 1’ 6’ x 3’ 3”

Weavings of this type are virtually unknown among collectors of Baluch material as well as among general collectors.  The reason is somewhat curious but it may have to do with the fact no one considered this material to be of ‘merit’ in the past and never brought it to market.  Undoubtedly, the material was available in the past but only in the past 15 years has it seen the light of day in the international marketplace.

The designs are quite nice, arranged in horizontal bands, with lovely colors and well composed. The colors are all derived from natural dyes, the condition is excellent with no holes or repair.
