Embroidered Talisman, Uzbek, Central Asia, 19th C., 4” x 4”

Talismans are often made in pairs, used to attach to the clothing of children to protect them from the ‘evil eye’.   These talismans are made as triangular shaped textiles and the photos here depict a pair still sewn together, apparently never used.

The colors are all derived from natural dyes and the condition is very good.
