Baluch Rug, W. Afghanistan, circa 1900, 2'2" x 3'10"
The design pool of Baluch rugs woven in western Afghanistan are prone to provide interesting, thought provoking twists and turns. On a camel wool ground, we see a design that may share origins or inspiration from that seen on some Yomut group 'tree' asmalyks or wedding trappings. The so-called serrated leaf motif dominates the field design
The secondary and tertiary elements are not without some interest as well. apparently randomly placed throughout the field.
The condition is not without some issues, one rudimentary repair (see final detail image, possibly a 'field repair' rather than a bad effort from a carpet repair person?), frayed selvedges and some wear (see details). The colors are all derived from natural dyes.
Price - $350 including domestic USA shipping
