Luri ‘Chanteh’ (personal bag), S. Persia, 19th C., 10" x 2' 3" (excluding the mount)

A fragmented but beautiful example of Luri weaving, mounted (sewn onto a rose colored cotton cloth and stretched over a wooden frame for hanging).

The medallion is beautifully colored, a deep blue/green.  The flat woven back is elaborately decorated and it is unusual to see a flat woven back of this design type, they are usually much more plain.

The condition is evident in the photographs, there is plenty of pile left on this fragmented bag.  The colors are lovely, all derived from natural dyes.
