Anatolian Kilim Fragment, Central Anatolia, 18th Century, 2’ 3’ x 4’ 9”

The simplicity of old Anatolian kilims is very striking and so evident in this graphic weaving from central Anatolia.   Some might argue the design in the pattnered bands resemble that of a “memlinc’ gol, but I refrain from indulging in such creative thinking.

The condition is evident in the  photographs, the colors are sublime (all derived from natural dyes) with a  clear aubergine and madder red, in addition to an unusual rose shade and an unfaded yellow.
