Tekke Turkmen Woman

This photo is not one of Dudin's but is part of the same museum collection. Depicted here is a Tekke woman of considerable wealth and social standing. Fully bedecked in an ornately embroidered chyrpy draped over her lavishly ornamented headdress, she sports an abundance of silver jewelery.

With the silver weighing several kilos, she is clearly a young woman who was born into an upper class family and has married well. Her fine facial features and relatively pale skin are consistent with this hypothesis. The slightly upturned Asiatic eyes possibly suggests the introduction of Tatar blood in her ancestry.
