Kirghiz or Karakalpak Woman

A young Karakalpak(?) woman poses for the photographer, fully adorned with an embroidered "chapan" which appears to lined with fur. The high headdress appears to be a typical adornment of some of these non-Turkmen Central Asian women. Silver ornaments may be seen hanging from her hair, used as the finish to braided hair tassels. Though identified as Karakalpak, the embroidered garment and the high headdress are features associated with the Kirghiz women of Central Asia, rather than the Karakalpaks.
